KUN Centre for equality and diversity is a non-governmental organization founded in 1991.
We have two offices located in Steigen and Steinkjer, Norway.
KUN Centre for Equality and Diversity aims to contribute to a society where women and men have equal opportunities to participate in, develop, and shape their own lives. We work continuously and systematically to combat discrimination and promote equality.
Our commitment to equality issues include perspectives on sex, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic origin and (dis)ability.

We have extensive experience in conducting research, running workshops, arranging courses, conferences, and study trips on a broad range of topics. The essence of our work is to provide perspectives for change, as well as to bridge the gap between research and practice. We cooperate with government agencies, counties, municipalities and various business associations.

Recent projects
Negative Social Control KUN, in collaboration with FødtFri (Born Free), arranged several seminars on the topic. We talked about what negative social control is, how it is experienced, discussed opportunities for change and how public services can assist people who experience negative social control.
Alone and Queer We conducted a study of the living conditions in care- and reception centres for lgbt children who have come to Norway as unaccompanied minor asylum seekers. This report is written by KUN on behalf of the Norwegian Ministry of Children, Youth and Family Affairs. The report is part of a larger collaboration project between KUN and Queer World [Skeiv Verden]
The Istanbul Convention: the Nordic Way (report link) In 2011, the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (the Istanbul Convention) was adopted. The convention is signed by all the Nordic countries and is ratified by all the countries except Iceland. Taking the Istanbul Convention as a starting point, the purpose of this report was to shed light on the work that is currently being carried out in the Nordic countries on violence against women and domestic violence

Selected reports and report summaries are available in English, see the publications tab at the top of the page.

International Cooperation
KUN Centre for Equality and Diversity participates in international cooperation and relevant experience exchange to support the competency development of our team members.
EEA grants
We participated in a number of projects with focus on different topics during the previous programme periods of EEA funding:
Stop Gender-Based Cyber Violence - research report on online harassment based on comparative work carried out in Czech Republic and Norway. KUN in cooperation with Gender Studies.
To Health - Reducing health and social inequalities of elderly people in Slovenia. In collaboration with The Centre for Health and Development Murska Sobota.
Homelike: together against violence. Legal work and advisory mobile centres for homeless women in Czech Republic. Cooperation with Jako Doma.
Other funding sources
During the last years KUN has had the opportunity to cooperate with various organizations from Estonia, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and Vietnam.
One of our long-lasting international projects was with the Vietnamese Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to enhance Vietnam's capacity for gender equality work. Around two hundred Vietnamese women have been trained in the method ‘Women can do it'. 'Women can do it' is a method for empowering women in politics, developed by the Norwegian Labour party. The project has contributed to integrating a gender perspective in legislation, strategy and action plans, and influenced policy development in the gender equality field.
